COMPANY BOARDS ‘MUST HAVE AT LEAST ONE BAME MEMBER’: The biggest UK firms should have at least one

black, Asian, or minority ethnic (BAME) member on their boards by 2021, business group the CBI has said.  Backed by  

companies such as Microsoft and law firm Linklaters, it said firms needed to set “clear and stretching targets” to improve diversity.

SBA ANNOUNCES $19M IN GRANTS TO IMPROVE SMALL BUSINESS EXPORTING: The U.S. Small Business 

Administration (SBA) has awarded $19 million in grants to 48 state international trade agencies to support the growth of small business exporting. The grants were awarded under the SBA’s State Trade Expansion Program (STEP), which aims to increase the number of small businesses that export, the value of their exports and the number of small companies that seek new trade opportunities.

MINORITY-OWNED BUSINESS CHALLENGES INCREASED BY PANDEMIC: Not far into the start of the pandemic, there seemed to be an emphasis on supporting small businesses. Advertisements highlighted these businesses, and people encouraged each other to order takeout at the local Mexican place down the road instead of Chipotle. But it’s been more than half a year, and small businesses are still suffering – some more than others.

GM INVESTING $2B IN SPRING HILL PLANT TO BUILD ELECTRIC VEHICLES, INCLUDING CADILLAC LYRIQ:  General Motors plans to spend $2 billion to convert its Spring Hill, Tennessee, assembly plant into a third U.S. site to build future electric vehicles. The company will build the Cadillac Lyriq, a small electric SUV at the Spring Hill factory.

$50 MILLION MORE IN COVID RELIEVE WILL TARGET TN’S MINORITY-OWNED BUSINESSES: In an Oct. 7 press release from the governor’s office, Tennessee

Governor Bill Lee, along with the Financial Stimulus Accountability Group (FSAG), announced $50 million in federal COVID-19 relief funds in the new Supplemental Employer Recovery Grant (SERG) program. This wave of funding will include economic relief 

for small businesses owned by minorities, women, veterans and the disabled that have suffered as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

NUCOR BREAKS GROUND ON $1.7 BILLION, 400-JOB STEEL MILL IN BRANDENBURG:  Today, Gov. Andy Beshear congratulated Nucor Corp. on breaking ground on the company’s 400-job, $1.7 billion steel plate manufacturing mill in Meade County, a project expected to employ up to 1,500 contractors during construction.

WEST VIRGINIA AMERICAN WATER AND PAGE-KINCAID PUBLIC SERVICE DISTRICT REACH AGREEMENT ON SYSTEM ACQUISITION: The Mountain State

set course Thursday to become the hyperloop state when Virgin Hyperloop announced that a portion of Northeast West Virginia will be the location of a testing and certification center for the high-speed transportation system. The $500-million Hyperloop Certification Center will be constructed on nearly 800 acres of land in Grant and Tucker counties, an area selected, in part, because of its topography and proximity to large population centers in the Eastern United States…
