COMPANIES HAVE NO EXCUSE FOR ‘DIVERSITY FATIGUE’: As a chief spokesperson on corporate diversity for Boston Consulting Group, I’m frustrated to find myself here – again – raising the issue when so little progress, year after year, has been made. That slow progress is not for lack of trying. Company leaders are well aware of the diversity problem – the lack of equal representation at the top of the corporate pyramid and the need for it as a key ingredient in long-term survival.

TENNESSEE

GENERAL MOTORS INVESTS $40M IN SPRING HILL PLANT FOR MANUFACTURING UPGRADES: General Motors is investing $40 million in the Spring Hill plant for upgrades to manufacturing capabilities.

The investment will increase the capacity of the 5.3L V8 engines for GM’s full-sized truck and SUV programs in the Spring Hill Global Propulsion Systems plant.

AMAZON TO CREATE 1,000 NEW JOBS IN TENNESSEE: Amazon is adding to its Tennessee investments by establishing a new, state-of-the art fulfillment center in Memphis. The online retailer will create 1,000 new full-time jobs at its new Shelby County fulfillment center. Employees at the 855,000-square-foot fulfillment center will work alongside Amazon’s innovative robotics technology to pick, pack and ship smaller customer items, such as books, electronics and consumer goods.

KENTUCKY

FIRST AFRICAN AMERICAN-OWNED BOURBON BRAND TO DEBUT IN LOUISVILLE:
Victor Yarbrough wanted to do something that would bring positive opportunities for economic growth to West Louisville. So, he started his own bourbon brand with his brothers Chris and Bryson. It’s called Brough Brothers Bourbon, and it’s already distributed through Amazon to the United Kingdom. Yarbrough anticipates a Louisville launch in February.

STATE HIGHWAY PLAN INCLUDES $367M FOR BRIDGE AND PARKWAY PROJECTS:  The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet presented the 2020 Recommended Highway Plan to lawmakers that prioritizes safety and fast-tracks major regional access projects to improve the quality of life for Kentucky families and boost economic development.

WEST VIRGINIA

THE CLOROX COMPANY TO MAKE $190 MILLION INVESTMENT IN WEST VIRGINIA: 
A leading manufacturer of consumer and profession products has announced it is seeking approval to build a cat litter manufacturing plant in Berkeley County. If approved, the Clorox Company’s

investment would bring $192 million in economic development to West Virginia and create approximately 100 full-time jobs.

FUNDING ANNOUNCED FOR BROADBAND EXPANSION IN WEST VIRGINIA: A project to expand rural broadband in five north-central West Virginia counties will get $18.7 million from the U.S. Department of Agriculture, officials announced.
