DOWNTOWN MEMPHIS – WHAT TO EXPECT IN 2020: Downtown Memphis is undergoing $5 billion in redevelopment projects – a transformation that can make the city more competitive and spur widespread economic benefits. 

Local and non-local investors are lured by downtown’s land value (appraised at $1.1 million per acre), Fortune 500 companies, Mississippi River views, riverfront parks, famous Beale Street and incentives.

VANDERBILT, VUMC HAVE $11.9B ECONOMIC IMPACT ON STATE:

Vanderbilt University and Vanderbilt University Medical Center poured nearly $12 billion into the Tennessee economy during the 2017-18 fiscal year, according to a report released this week.  The combined $11.9B in economic activity represents a significant increase from the $9.5B the university and medical center generated in 2015-2016 fiscal year.

KENTUCKY

KENTUCKY ADVANCED MATERIALS MANUFACTURING PLANS DIAMOND ‘MINE’ IN LOUISVILLE, KENTUCKY: Kentucky Advanced Materials Manufacturing is establishing a facility to mine diamonds above ground in Louisville, Kentucky. The company is partnering with the University of Louisville’s Conn Center for Renewable Energy to implement a pilot plant/demonstration facility.

WEST VIRGINIA

PRATT & WHITNEY INVESTING $30M IN WEST VIRGINIA EXPANSION: 
Pratt & Whitney will invest $30 million in its engine services facility in Bridgeport, WV for the maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) of PW800 engines. Specifically, the site will service the market leading PW814GA and PW815GA engines that power the Gulfstream G500 and G600 aircraft, respectively, with the capacity to expand its capabilities to other PW800 engine models in the future.

JACKSON COUNTRY, W.VA., RANKS AS NATIONAL LEADER IN ECONOMIC GROWTH: Jackson County led the United States for economic growth in 2018. According to Mark Whitley, director of the Jackson County

Development Authority, a new study took place to analyze gross domestic product. “It’s everything from construction to domestic and international sales so it’s a whole gamut of products or services,” Whitley said.  The county saw 
an 86.5 percent growth as compared to previous years. The analysis involved counties in the country with populations with less than 100,000, according to Whitley.
