DIVERSITY & INCLUSION AMONG INTERNATIONAL EDUCATORS:

Alliance member Diversity Abroad published the 2019 Survey of Diversity & Inclusion Among International Educators during International Education Week.  
According to the survey, which garnered 1,003 respondents, the racial/ethnic make-up of the 2019 respondents was more diverse than the 2018 pool with 35.1% identifying as diverse racial/ethnic professionals and 64.9% of survey respondents identifying as White professionals.

THE NUMBER OF WOMEN-OWNED BUSINESSES KEEPS CLIMBING – BUT THERE ARE STILL OBSTACLES FOR MINORITIES: Female entrepreneurs 

continue to face an uphill battle compared with their male counterparts – but that’s not to say they aren’t making strides.

A new study published by financial services firm American Express found that the number of women-owned businesses increased 21% over the past five years to almost 13 million, compared with a rise of 9% in all other businesses.

MITSUBISHI MOTORS NORTH AMERICA CONFIRMS LOCATION OF NEW U.S. HEADQUARTERS IN FRANKLIN, TENNESSEE:
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. (MMNA), the fastest-growing Asian brand in the U.S. for the second consecutive year*, today confirmed the location for the company’s permanent headquarters in the Cool Springs district of Franklin, Tennessee, a suburb of Nashville.

CHATTANOOGA VOLKSWAGEN PLANT BREAKS GROUND ON ELECTRIC SUV EXPANSION, TO ADD 1,000 JOBS: In early 2022, the first Volkswagen electric SUVs should roll off a new production line in Chattanooga.

To make them, an $800 million expansion of the Volkswagen Chattanooga Assembly Plant was announced Wednesday. It’s expected to create 1,000 jobs

CVG RECEIVES $11.6M IN AIRPORT IMPROVEMENT PROGRAM GRANTS: The U.S. Department of Transportation announced recently that the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport (CVG) will receive a total of $11.6M in Airport Improvement Program grants. The national program funds airport infrastructure projects such as runways, taxiways, airport signage, airport lighting and airport markings.

HYSTER-YALE INVESTS $25.7M TO EXPAND FORKLIFT PRODUCTION FACILITY IN BEREA:  Company anticipates substantial annual capacity.  Forklift manufacturer Hyster-Yale Group will invest $25.7 million on an expansion in Berea to greatly boost capacity at the facility.

WEST VIRGINIA TOURISM INDUSTRY OUTPACES NATIONAL GROWTH BY 58 PERCENT: 
West Virginia’s tourism industry grew for the second consecutive year in 2018. This two-year growth trend reverses years of decline and outpaces national growth by 58 percent.
