TENNESSEE

MITSUBISHI MOVES HEADQUARTERS TO FRANKLIN FROM CALIFORNIA:  
The automaker will join Nissan and General Motors, bolstering Tennessee’s stature as major U.S. auto hub. The move, expected to be completed this year, will bring 200 jobs to Franklin,Tennessee, just south of Nashville, including positions in sales, marketing, IT, human resources, communications, parts and service, product planning, dealer operations, finance and legal. Mitsubishi expects to invest $18.25 million in its new site.

FEDEX AND PARTNERS PLAN TO HELP 75 BLACK ENTREPRENEURS IN MEMPHIS GROW THEIR BUSINESS:  FedEx Logistics president and CEO Richard Smith has announced plans to select 75 black entrepreneurs to support them through a public/private partnership. Smith explained that the effort was motivated by concerns about the need for investment in disadvantaged African-American communities like New Chicago in North Memphis.

UPS – THE CORNERSTONE OF KENTUCKY LOGISTICS: Kentucky’s reputation as a transportation and logistics industry center continued to grow in May when Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos showed up in Hebron to break ground for a $1.5 billion Prime Air hub at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

TEMPUR SEALY PLANS TO ADD 700 U.S. POSITIONS: Tempur Sealy International announced plans Wednesday to add approximately 700 new U.S. employees to meet growing demand for its Tempur-Pedic, Stearns & Foster and Sealy mattresses and bedding products.

WVU ECONOMIST RECOMMENDS DIVERSIFICATION TO WIDEN STATE ECONOMIC GROWTH: A West Virginia University economist credits the energy industry with fueling West Virginia’s latest economic growth.”We’ve had improvements in coal, coal has picked up from about 80 million tons in 2016 up to 95 million tons last year.
